Supernatural Lightens Up

Ok, that? Was just plain fun. After all the angst we’ve seen the boys go through up until now, it was great to see them kicking back with something that was practically lighthearted – if you ignored the people with their throats slit so deeply you could see the spinal cord.

We loved seeing an outside perspective of the boys at work – the contrast between the story Sam told the cops and the guy’s actions was brilliant. And Sam’s a fantastic liar – we were actually convinced that the dead man really was an old military colleague of John’s, even as we saw him say “Who’s Anthony Giles?” Dean should really let Sam do all the talking when it comes to interviewing witnesses – we’re sure Sam would have been able to subtly manipulate Karen into telling them about Tony’s weird nightmares without her suspecting anything was amiss. Dean just blundered into it, and it obviously freaked Karen out.

We’ve been waiting for all of the boy’s past misdeeds to catch up with them. Sure, we know that they’re fighting the good fight, but to regular law enforcement, they must look like particularly morbid con artists. How else can you make fake credit cards and grave desecration fit together?

Finally, we loved seeing both of the boys showing how damned competent they are. They work well together, and obviously trust each other’s skills. Both of them went to work cracking the spirit’s code, without help from a computer. And Dean’s theatrical “confession” was just a ploy to help Sam escape. Well done, boys.

One quibble: We could have done without the pea soup reference at the end. We like our metacommentary on the subtle side, thanks.

what episode is this?????

I love the way Dean and Sam figure things out so quickly..I enjoy each episode and look forward to it every thursday nite... Can't wait for next weeks episode...

I loved The Usual Suspects!! The lines were hilarious esp the prostate one! And this episode was witty and smart. And it was really good to see Linda Blair back in action. Bring her back later in the season!!

Gosh, I loved this episode. It was amazing. I loved Linda Blair's character, although I was pretty mad at her in the beginning when she wanted Sammy to sell out Dean. Like he would ever do that.

And I have to admit, the pea soup reference had me laughing although it was pretty cheesey.

Favorite moments:
Dean and Sam both calling the lawyer Matlock and the lawyer saying that they are definitely brothers.

All the other fun little references in the episode, such as the whole Scully and Mulder bit and the Great Escape reference.

Dean making weird noises while Sam is hacking into the computer until he says angrily, "Dude!"

And finally, nothing compares to my absolute favorite line of the season so far:
"My name is Dean Winchester. I’m an Aquarius, I enjoy sunsets, long walks on the beach, and frisky women."
Haha how priceless! Oh, Dean... =)

This was a really great episode. i loved how Sam was able to take charge and the wise cracks that kept creeping out of Dean's mouth. A good balance and lighthearted story. hellhouse was my fav last season, I can see this one being my fav this season!

i really LOVED the episode, THANK GOD there was NO JO and NO ELLEN...Keep that up please. all i have to say to jo is STAY AWAY..DONT COME BACK. but anyways regardless, i just loved it and i can not wait for next week's episode.

I love the episode and everything about Supernatural. Thanks CW for keeping it on!

This definately has the be the creepiest episode of SN I've ever seen!!! But more than that, this episode was truly CLASSIC!!! Loved watching Dean and Sam work this hunt together, in Dean's words they "make a hell of a team" (and even that's a gross understatement) loved the brotherly moments. (Scully and Mulder, Dean making noises w/ his mouth, Sam shoving Dean at the end...) I loved watching snarky!Dean with the cops...especially Gederik's (sp?) character. (That prostate line was so funny!) I am a spoiler fanatic and have been waiting to see this episode in anticipation of Dean being all snarky with the officers!!! (Sarcastic Dean is sooooo sexy!!!) And I completely agree, it was the perfect amount of sarcasm and wit without being over the top - that confession scene was AWESOME!!! And, all those great-one liners...and the way Dean talked with his defense lawyer - too funny!!! I also loved how we got a little insight into the boys code - Jim Rockford, first motel in the yellow pages. I also loved how they brought Sam's schooling/past into play - this show rocks when it comes to the continutiy of the smaller details as well as the bigger ones!! As for Sam, I loved how the peeps over at SN weaved his narration over the flashbacks - Sam really is a flawless liar when he needs to be!! I also loved the scenes where Linda's character was interrogating him. The look he gave here when it was obvious that she wanted him to turn on Dean and the sincerity in his face when he said that Dean didn't kill anyone. Once again, props to both actors for making these character so believable and easy to connect to and adore!!! One thing that I would like to have seen, though, (hint for future eps.) is him working his magic on the computer. I would love to see Sam in action on a computer, hacking in to files and such! Other things that I also agree were totally awesome: the boys mirroring each other when separated, the silent communication in that last scene and just all those moments that show how well they truly know and TRUST each other!!! As for Linda Blair, she was awesome, I definetly hope to see her again...loved watching her interact with both boys. All in all, this has got to be up there as one of my favourite episodes of SN ever!!!

i totally LOVED this episode. dean was totally hot and so was sam , but dean more wink wink, but it sucks that dean was in this episode less, hopefully next week will make up for that and i am SO GLAD THERE WAS NO JO AND ELLEN, CANT STAND JO! get away from dean is all i have to say to her!

Smallville is my favorite show but I'm not understanding why they let the green arrow stay. The new season has been all about the green and its just boring. He has no power at all except for some bow skills. Come on bring in supergirl already so Clark will have someone to relate to. Just don't kill her off like they did the last female from krypton. Maybe when the show ends they could do a spin off with supergirl. She could start off as a 14 year old younger cousin. We can see what it would be like for a girl to have all those powers. But for real get rid of green already and take the show in a better direction. Make Lex really evil already. Don't tease us and then end the show right when everyone finds out about Clarks powers and Lex Turns evil. The next character to go should be Linel Luther and it should be Lex to do it. That would be the best way to transform Lex to pure evil and take over as the only Luther. Plus hes having a kid so he needs to be the father now. Have Clark fly already but never have him in glasses or wearing a cheesy suit, Plese! You guys should call me and I'll give you some great Ideas for the show. I know all about the characters.

Don't get me wrong..I really enjoyed the HELL outta this episode. I was so glad to see the brother dynamic back, enjoyed Linda Blair's presence, glad to see some of the event's of last season jumping up to bite them in the ass...but these little nit-picky things just wiggled under my skin.

I don't think a single lawyer COULD have represented them both; conflict of interest. And if there was no reason to keep the boys from talking to each other, why have them in seperate rooms?

As for shooting Pete... I don't think it was a 'good shoot'...if she was going to say that Pete killed Claire and stole Heroin, she should have taken him into custody.

He was facing away from her when she shot him. Why didn't she shoot him in the leg? IA would be all OVER that one!

And how did a guy in chains (Dean) get clean away from her? Not BIG things...but niggly, see?

Loved this episode. A change up on what has become the standard set-up for Supernatural. I'm not a Linda Blair fan , but thought she did an okay job. The ghostie with the slashed throat trying to communicate had me covering my eyes. Yuck! Loved what a good liar Sam is and what a smart ass Dean was in the "in camera" supposed confession. You know if I were a cop I'd be half tempted to do some police brutality myself.:)

Not that it really bothers me, cause as I said I loved this episode , but someone needs to learn a bit about police procedures. No cop is going to allow a homicide suspect to pass notes to a suspect in another interrogation room. I doubt a public defender would be assigned to both brothers. With all the paper work involved the bad cop would never been able to make off with Dean in the back of a van. All that aside, I really liked this one.

Now both the boys are fugitives. Uh-oh! I bet this gonna cause the Winchesters some problem down the road.

BTW the next episode looks awesome!

This episode was pretty interesting. Not one of my favorite of the season (the premiere, Bloodlust and Simon Said are my favorites for season 2 so far) but it was still a good episode. Much better than last weeks.

Sam's story in the beginning was amusing. I didn't even realize he was lying until it dawned on me that what he was saying wasn't actually happening as we were watching it, haha. He's a pretty damn good liar, that boy is. Geez.

I'd like to know how Sam managed to escape out the window with no fire escape near the window and a broken hand to boot? He's not only a very good liar, but a talented escaper at that!

I thought the line about pea soup was really corny, but it amused me. I think it would've been funnier if they would've given Dean and Sam pea soup for a dinner thing or had Linda Blair eating what looked like pea soup.

Linda Blair is so cute. :) She can come back any time. I really enjoyed the angst break in this episode, but I was impressed with how well the brothers could be apart but work like a team anyway. That lady ghost was gross. Blech. I also appreciated that the boys' misadventures don't disappear into nothingness. Somebody out there is paying attention and notices. Thumbs up from me. Much better than No Exit, but not quite as good as Everybody Loves A Clown, which is my favorite so far. A good solid B. I reserve my A's for pretty darn freaking good episodes, but this was pretty close. I liked it.

A good solid episode. I enjoyed the lighter feel which took me back to the good times of season 1.

I thought Linda Blair was an inspired bit of stunt casting even if she's not the most brilliant actress in the world. Although the pea soup line was probably a bit OTT.

A couple of little things bothered me though. I didn't like Sam's reaction when Linda suggested she let the boys go. All that "are you sure, you could lose your job" concern just bugged. Would he prefer Dean stand trial for a bunch of serial murders he didn't commit? OK writers, we get it: SAMMY IS THE CARING AND SENSITIVE ONE.

The other thing that really took me out of the story was Sam using his cast to take down the wall. Yes I know TV walls are made of styrofoam but we're not supposed to remember that. It felt like JPad just needed to prove to the world that he's a tough guy even though he's had two broken bones in the last year or so. It was just his ego messing up the flow of the story as far as I'm concerned.

Finally hope you got to sleep in a bit Jensen. TPTB did a better job this episode of having one of its stars obviously taking some time off, but I still noticed less Dean on my screen. Just like I noticed less Sam last week. I don't really mind if one of the boys gets a break once in a while, but I'm just saying I hope this isn't a trend. I like to see the brothers together rather than off working alone with the guest of the week.

Once again I liked the episode just fine but those couple of things really bugged me.

Preview for next week looks awesome.

Welcome back, Supernatural! What a relief this episode was from the excrutiating one last week. Wonderful Winchester goodness and I laughed at Bored!Dean in the office while Sam was trying to work. He must have driven Sam nuts growing up when he was bored (G)

And Linda Blair with Pea Soup! I can't help it, I loved that reference. This is a character I would love to see again, and not the RoadHouse nonsense. I hope Kripke has taken fan-reaction to heart and "fixes" that.

The ghost creeped me out, but didn't come close to Bloody Mary. All in all, a wonderful comeback from last week!

Now that was more like it. The nearly psychic connection between the brothers had a grin on my face the entire hour. My goodness, but Jared Padalecki has matured from a kid into a man before our eyes. His snark-o-meter was working as well as Dean's. I like it.

STEVE McQUEEN. Excellent. :) Thumbs up.

LOVED THIS EPISODE!!! the brothers worked so well together even without talking or being with each other. i mean having their stories completely match, dean's "confession" just so sam could escape, and them both figuring out it was an anagram, not a name. sam and dean are just so amazing! haha..and i thought the end with the pea soup thing was hilarious! i was like what? i thought i heard wrong when he said it..but then realized he actually said pea soup and i was like what?? LOL.

i dont care what anyone says about the supernatural episode...i LOVED it and i cant wait for more (next week's).
the brothers handeled everything so well, i was excited.

I absolutely loved this week's Supernatural. I have been so excited about Linda Blair guest starring on the show. The CW really dropped the ball in their promotions department. I would have promoted this episode for a while. I would love to see Linda Blair's character back on the show again sometime. Also, loved the Rockford Files reference. This show is so awesome and doesn't get enough praise. I hope that it is on the air for a long time to come.

A few comments on the following:

"...the cops let a lawyer pass notes back and forth between two suspects under arrest in a murder case who are being questioned separately..."

I really don't see the problem here. Once the lawyer was there, they would have had to let him see them both and he would have advised them not to talk anymore anyway and it's not unusual for a lawyer to represent brothers, or two people suspected of being involved in a crime.

"And SAM forgets the basic "salt and burn the bones" which allows Claire to escape to threaten Pete in the big climax?"

But, I think the body might come in handy in the case against Pete. Claire was the link that tied Pete to the heroine and the other two deaths. And they couldn't very well burn the body there in the building anyway and they couldn't take it somewhere else. The building she was left in was part of a crime scene now and how would they explain burning the body after finding it in the wall? Plus, they realized that it wasn't a vengeful spirit and could be put to rest by seeing justice done.

"Diane shoots Pete in the BACK, and she isn't going to be at least reprimanded, if not fired and arrested herself? And she had plenty of time to think of that before she shot him too."

Why would she be arrested? She'd just found out that Pete stole heroine, killed a girl he had dealing it for him and killed two other people as well. He was going to shoot an unarmed man in cold blood. All she'd have to say is that she stopped him from doing so. Yeah, her fellow cops might shun her for that whole Big Blue Wall thing, whether he was a dirty cop or not, but I think that it would be written up as a right shoot in the end. I doubt they would want to drag out a story about a dirty cop.

She'd probably get a rip for "letting" Dean escape but I doubt there would be lingering consequences for her.

sam is so hot dean is ok

What a fun episode. No Jo or Ellen, yea! I loved every moment. The monster of the week was effectively creepy, the guest stars were awesome and the brothers' chemistry seemed to radiate on screen even when the two didn't have a scene together. This was a perfect hour of television. I was also glad that they brought up the shapeshifter, consistancy is a great thing. And I now know for sure that "Elroy McGuilicutty" is legaly dead and not John Winchester. My only complaint is that with Linda Blair (one of the ultimate scream queens) guest starring, the CW should have been promoting this episode better. I'm looking forward to next week's ep.

Overall I loved this episode. It was a nice departure from last week's, (which IMO has been one of the weakest).
Linda did a nice job with the character, even if at times it was a bit wooden. But the character felt realistic and unforced. I think the audience was able to accept the character a lot more readily than say, Jo.

The little jokes and one-liners got me rolling and made the episode feel nice and fresh. I'm glad that they had the pea soup line at the end. To me, yeah it might have been a bit cheesy, but it was a nice line to end the episode. I'm sure lots of people were just waiting for little Exorcist references throughout the episode.

I thought the episode did a great job demonstrating how competent Sam and Dean are with their cases and how well they can work one out with the bare minimum (MacGyver anyone?) I loved how they figured out that the name was an anagram at the same time. I would love to see more of that.

I'm looking forward to the show continuing on along this path. It works well.

This one was a vast improvement on last week's. This was just full of Winchestery goodness. Loved Dean's calm snarky demeanor while in police custody. Loved the boys minds working the same and both still trying to figure out what that name meant and both concluding that it was an anagram. Loved Sam's masterful lies about why they were there and how everything happened. lol. Loved Dean's "confession" and Sam's great escape.

Missed the Metallicar but LOVED that opening sequence with their various aliases. That has to be my favorite previously segment so far.

I was really happy with this one. A few minor nitpicks throughout but I've voiced those elsewhere, so I won't repeat them here.

I enjoyed the episode very much and was sublimely happy to be rid of the roadhouse crew for this one.

I enjoyed this episode. Especially because the writers incorporated a growing bond between the brothers. In the pilot they were estranged. In this episode the two were on the same track to figuring out the case even though they weren't in the same room.
Linda Blair and Jason Gederick did good jobs. I liked the senario of the dirty cop looking for the prefect scapegoat along with a helpful spirit. It showed that both good and evil comes in all forms.
The only part of the episode that was "off" for me was that they put an unattended Sam in a holding room with a...window? Enough said about that.

One more thing: Welcome back Jared. We missed you!

This episode was SO close to TOTALLY rocking!! Loved the Steve McQueen Rockford Files/ Matlock references...Dean's snark, as always, is much fun.

But as the estimable Dodger Winslow points out...

"...the cops let a lawyer pass notes back and forth between two suspects under arrest in a murder case who are being questioned separately..."

"Pete said Dean was being transfered and then just TOOK him? Hello? Without paperwork or anything?"

And SAM forgets the basic "salt and burn the bones" which allows Claire to escape to threaten Pete in the big climax?

Pete was a pretty stupid guy, but really, just how damn stupid a COP, when he leaves a piece of custom made jewllery that can be tied to him, on a corpse? A county vehicle, taking a prisoner to another (out of state) jurisdiction DOESN'T have the lo-jack ON all the time? And Pete doesn't have a partner along as backup as he's transfering a multiple murder suspect?? Diane shoots Pete in the BACK, and she isn't going to be at least reprimanded, if not fired and arrested herself? And she had plenty of time to think of that before she shot him too.

OH...close, SOOOO close to totally ROCKING!!!

I loved it. Of course, IMToD is still the number one, but this one was pretty good after last week's No Exit "something is terribly missing - SAM!" episode. I loved how the writers were able to keep the brotherly bond intact even though Jensen and Jared only had a very few scenes together. The smartass remarks were funny(the confession, X-files, pea soup, the shove at the end...)and the Winchester brothers are so awesome...They have the best chemistry on screen ever and their close bond is really sweet(the way Sammy almost jumped the bad cop, the little message)...Anyway, I liked this eppy very much and next week is going to be really good ... angsty Dean...yeaaaah...oh, and I heard, Kripke is giving us the long-promised hug...

Excellent episode. Using the flashback device at the beginning (very much like Skin) was a great way to jump right into the story and hearing Sam's lies against the visual truth was brilliant.

Sam really is very good at this stuff isn't he and with his puppy dog eyes, there's not a lie he can't tell well. (And little kudos to Jared for the subtle performance when Ballard mentioned Jess' death).

Favorite moment: Bored!Dean making noises until Sam's "DUDE!" tosses him out. So funny.

That episode was good (refering to the Stephen Baldwin flick)! Those boys are pretty good liars. Shouldn't the law enforcement know that the shapeshifter from season 1 is dead and not Dean himself?

I was glad to see that Linda Blair guest stars on this show. It was a good look for the show. We all know her from that infamous thriller ("The Excorist") and its sequels. Who's next to guest star? Robert Englund? Kane Hodder? Jamie Lee Curtis? Bruce Campbell? Jack Nicholson?! Bring it on!

The ghost of Claire did scare me just a little, but what was she trying to warn Karen and Det. Diana? I know it's that the bad cop (Det. Pete) killed her and that's what he gets for trying to get away with murder.

Can't wait for next's week episode!

I think this was the first supernatural episode I was kinda disappointed in and I was really looking forward to it this week. It was a good episode but it wasn't great like they usually are. I found it a little boring. There was just something missing. Maybe it was the banter between the brothers or the usual one liners that were thrown in or Dean's smartass remarks. It just didn't work well for me.

I thought showing what really happened and what Sam was saying was really well done. I also liked that the boys kept trying to solve the case no matter what was going on - neither of them seemed that fazed about being sent to jail.

The way they went about figuring things out and Sam's escape was very well done too. I just.. I dunno .. it didn't feel like the other episodes.

I liked the line about pea soup at the end, it wast he only part of the show that had me cracking up. Then of course I had to explain it to those who didn't know what the exorsist was.

I'm glad there was no Jo in this episode! Now I'm left wondering if there will be trouble in the future for Dean in regards to what happened in St.Louis (?).

Looking forward to Next Week's episode!!
