Fighting Words: The Girl Geek/Boy Beauty Was Brilliant vs. Way To Mess Up The Show!

This week, Sarah and I debate Beauty and The Geek's Season Four twist, which introduced boy beauty Sam and girl geek Nicole to the mix to shake things up. Was it a brilliant move or a twist gone bad? Check out our take, then post your thoughts in the comments!

Beauty and The Geek's Sam and Nicole

Sarah: I was excited when Beauty and The Geek announced they were finally acknowledging the existence of geeks of the female persuasion. After all, these are my people. It is possible to have both boobs and comics and the occasional 20-sided dice.

But I think the show went wrong by having only ONE couple reverse the Beauty-Geek paradigm. Why not have a whole house full of she-geeks and himbos? It would make the “social experiment” of BATG that much stronger by presenting a fuller range of she-geek types, and we’d see more than just one pretty-boy actor. Plus, with Sam in the house, all the other guys were shut out of the Beauty-bagging sweepstakes, which was a bummer – we always love the unlikely hookups. If only they’d fully committed to the change, it could have been a great twist. As it was, it started the show on its regrettable decline.

Jackie: While I agree with Sarah that the twist would've made a much bigger impact if we got to watch a houseful of male beauties and female geeks interact, I'm still glad the show took this step. After three seasons, the old formula was getting stale fast, and I really enjoyed seeing the reactions of the other competitors after Sam and Nicole's big reveal.

That said, I wish Beauty and The Geek would've stuck with it for Season Five! Instead, we got another twist (but this one, in my opinion, lame) that pitted beauties against geeks. Why? Why not try for a full season that turns the old format on its head? Season Five didn't do as well, and the show's taking a hiatus, but I hope that when it returns, the producers will revisit a male beauty/female geek format. It's as good a time as any to take a risk -- I'm convinced that the show would pick up new fans if it actually dared to be different again.

I thought that season four was their best.I hated geeks against the beauty, and I hope that they do not do that again. I also like that we could vote for the winner. Maybe they should have a full season with no elimination and at the end let the people vote.

I have to disagree with the decision. I think they should have made it like that throughout the couples, or not at all. This is mainly because since the first episode, the girl-geek guy-beauty had a target on their backs and they were working against a disadvantage. I myself am a girl-geek, and while I liked the idea, at least half of the house should have been this way.

I understand why they only did one pair like this the first time, but I agree that they should have kept with it. My friend said they should call it "Hottie and Geek" lol.

Geez, he's super hot!

I'm a She-Geek as well and while I don't watch the show, it's good to show the other side of the coin!
