Reaper: A Fond Farewell

Saying goodbye, going away, seems like goodbye's such a hard thing to say...we'll give major props to anyone who can identify those lyrics. Bidding personal farewells to our beloved characters on Reaper overshadowed an otherwise excellent finale this week. It's always a shame when a show gets canned before the writers are able to tie up all the loose ends and give the characters a proper send-off. So, we went on an invigorating adventure with Sam, Sock, Ben and Andi, all the while knowing it would be the last. (There is some hope on the horizon as the show might move to syndication -- so keep your fingers crossed!)

The episode contained all we love about the show: Sock's crazy but good-hearted antics, Ben's sweet, sensitive animal love and Sam's make-the-best-of-it attitude. Once again, we ventured away from the soul-capturing story arc and focused on Sam challenging the Devil in exchange for his soul. However, the quick soul-catching within the first five minutes of the episode did allow for a hysterical "White Rabbit" musical interlude with Sock later on. (Apparently you can get high from licking a toad? And here all this time we've been trying to kiss them hoping for a prince in return. One lick and you'll forget all about your designs on happily-ever-after.)

But we digress. Steve appears from heaven as a guardian angel and helps Sam translate that mysterious scroll sent from hell by Mr. Oliver's hands. Within the ancient script lies the incantation to summon the Devil instantly and force him to participate in a contest. Sam goes through some soul-searching to uncover the skill he truly excels at and comes up with quarters. Because nothing says talent like proficiency at a drinking game. Unfortunately, the Devil seems to have spent a lot of time on college campuses playing the game because the contest ends in a draw. The Devil agrees to another challenge, but only if Sam can make it worth his while.

Determined to get her boyfriend back, Andi gets Gladys to transcribe the note from hell and finds out that Steve misread the script. The new translation gives Sam a loophole to beat the Devil. If Sam can take advantage of the Devil's vanity, he can win the game. Andi agrees to give her soul to the Devil if he agrees to go at it again with Sam and wins. She then hatches a plan to play quarters on a mirrored tabletop. With the Devil's reflection staring back at him, he just can't concentrate on the task at hand and misses all but one shot. In the midst of a temper tantrum the Devil shatters the shot glass, forcing Sam to get another one. On his way he encounters Steve, who then breaks Sam's quarter-throwing hand. Unable to grasp a quarter, Sam loses the contest and Andi loses her soul.

In the end, Steve's instructions to thwart Sam's plans came from a higher power. Apparently God wants Sam tied to the Devil? We may never find out the answer. What we do know at this juncture is that the Devil owns both Sam and Andi, but it's not so bad because they have each other and they're in luuuuvvvv. Ben and Nina can live blissfully together now that Ben's grandmother thinks the demon has been excised out of Nina. (It was a close call, until Sock barged in on the exorcism causing a ruckus so Nina could pretend to be cured). And Sock is just hanging out, enriching everyone's lives with his brash brand of humor and charm.

What did you think? Will you miss the crew? Do you feel unfilled by the show's semi-cliffhanger ending?

Everyone has already conveyed my emotions towards this show. I pretty much only watch two shows on T.V. and thanks to the CW I now only have one to watch. I really hope that it gets syndicated. Please what do we have to do to get this show back?

Here I've been waiting anxiously for the next season only to find out that it was canned??? What the hell CW??? This was the most hilarious original show I've seen on the network that isn't teenage crap. I can only hope it gets picked up else where... this show has too much potential to just fade away... just tell me what petition to sign and where?

WHHHYYYYYYYYY!!?!?!? This is the best show that has ever been on CW11!!! SO STUPID cancelling it! bring it back!PLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEE!!!!!

I can't believe they cancelled this... about as dumb as cancelling gilligans island way back when.. dumb move cw... we are sick of reality
tv... america needs good sitcoms.. and we need reaper! or at least start filming the ending
first just I'm case you cancell. we cam atleast
find out what happens to our favorite characters.
so sad..

This show is a gem. They've got the formula spot on. This show should run for at least 10 years. Cancellation of such a brilliant show would be nothing less that just plain stupid.

It is very disappointing that Reaper has to be cancelled. Most of the shows on this station are not good and are just garbage except the sci-fi superhero shows. This is the only show that my family and I look forward to seeing each week. CW is making a very stupid move by cancelling it. There will be many people who will not watch the network because of this.

I'm another person who doesn't watch anything on the CW except for Reaper--which I thought was the smartest, funniest dramedy on television. At this point, I'll watch bad Lifetime movies before I'll tune in to anything else on the CW!

NOOOO! This is wrong! You finally get a show with good humor not just the same sex stuff.. lies.. whos hurting who.. REAPER has a cast that works well together, shows friendship (as they work together to get the demons and help eachother out at work!) come on! Not only do I watch it , My nephew watches it and my sons girlfriend little brother (who thought he would be too scared but LOVES it and REAPER night is HIS night now!) you have 3 generations right there watching it!! Dont be like the other stations, Keep a great show on!! (remember bosom buddies w/ tom hanks? that came back!) CW I will not watch another show if Reaper goes! The connection the characters have is great! You will be making a big mistake! Reaper has a quality no other show has thats been missing for a long time on televison! Rise above!!

The Reaper is too good to be cancelled. Besides Supernatural, The Reaper is the main reason I tune into the CW on Tuesdays. I definitely will not watch whatever is replacing my favorite show.
I know many people who watch The Reaper and who are very upset about the CW's cancellation of this show.
We REAPER FANS ARE UNITED GLOBALLY AND WILL NOT STOP RALLYING UNTIL THE REAPER IS BROUGHT BACK WITH NEW EPISODES.
Whichever network picks up THE REAPER, KUDOS to you!!

All I can say is I don't watch anything on "The CW" except Reaper, now it's like passing up The Weather Channel, will never watch the network again

All I can say Don't take the Reaper off your line up. I know so many people that watch and love the show.
This show is great and am very upset it will no longer be on.

It's more what I *won't* miss - which is the CW and anything related to THIS particular site. I'm actually glad Reaper is no longer in the y'alls manglehold.

I'll wait to miss Reaper until it's truly gone.

Those top lyrics are from The Goodbye song from The Muppets Take Manhattan.

Me? Dork? Never! :)

I'm not missing anything bc I expect this show to continue for a Season 3 either on cable or syndication, deals are still being discussed. Fans we need to show them it's worth it! Write-in campaign to support the process at htte://reaperdmv.com!

Saying goodbye by the muppets, such an appropriate song for a sad point in tv history.

Lets hope it is syndicated :)

I will miss the show and crew, i loved watching reaper each week. It will be missed.
I did think it was wrapped up well yet still allowed for it to be picked up at a later date (lets hope it is)

I'll have some reaper props now please ;)
